ABOUT THE JYSK ART ACADEMY
The Jutland Academy of Fine Arts offers a state-recognized, 5-year higher education with a focus on current, international contemporary art. The education is based on the students’ individual practice with emphasis on the experiment in art, and on the discussion of the role of art in society and culture in the overall sense. The school is organized as a single unit without media-divided departments, where idea and method are discussed across media, in accordance with modern art practice.
The activities of the Jutland Academy of Fine Arts are aimed at creating an artistically developing and intellectually stimulating study community. It is essential for the academy that the study activities reflect the fact that visual art does not function without an exploratory dialogue with the complex and constantly changing world of political, technological and economic conditions of which our time consists and which characterize the visual arts and culture. .
The Jutland Academy of Fine Arts is a self-governing institution run with support from Aarhus Municipality and the Ministry of Culture . The academy’s activities are also currently supported by:
Henny and Johan Richter Foundation
The Carlsberg Foundation
June 15 Fund
Aarhuus Stiftstidendes Fond
The study at the Jutland Academy of Fine Arts is designed so that the individual student’s needs are met in the best possible way. It happens i.a. by making all teaching in all disciplines available to all students throughout the course. The teaching is handled by a team of committed and distinctive artists who are active on the national and international art scene. In the teaching situation, it is essential that the student is prepared for many different forms of collaboration.
Teaching is mainly in Danish and English. Therefore, some knowledge of English is required.
There are often guest teachers who provide workshops and other teaching in English and some of the written teaching material is only available in English.
At present, DJK has hired an English-speaking associate professor.
