MARIA MIKKELSEN’S CHILDREN’S HOME IS A SMALL, BUT SPACIOUS, PRIVATE INSTITUTION WHICH TODAY HOUSES BOTH A NURSERY AND KINDERGARTEN – ALL THIS WITH A CENTRAL LOCATION IN KOLDING CITY CENTER.
Maria Mikkelsen’s Kindergarten was established in 1922 and moved in 1954 to Villa Søborg, which is an old mansion right by Slotssøen and at the foot of Koldinghus. Over time, the house has been updated to make room for new needs and desires – most recently with a new playground, which gives children plenty of opportunity to unfold. The place exudes history and the Orphanage is created on solid values and traditions that we actively use in our everyday lives. You are very welcome to contact Børnehuset if you have questions or want a tour.
About the orphanage
A private nursery and kindergarten The nursery is for children between 8 months and 3 years. The nursery has room for 17 children, which are divided into smaller groups to meet the children’s needs and development. Collectively, we call them the Ants and they live on the 1st floor of our orphanage.
The kindergarten is for children from 3 years and until they reach school age. The kindergarten has room for 35 children. It’s the Beetles and the Bees. Our expectations of the children when they start in kindergarten are that they are clean and able to join in on small walks and that they no longer need a nap.
Børnehuset’s location Maria Mikkelsen’s Børnehus is centrally located in the heart of Kolding. The orphanage is an old mansion, practical and contemporary decorated. It is idyllically located with a playground right down to Slotssøen and with a view of Koldinghus.
Staff Leader: Lene Hansen.
We can have one or two company interns attached to the orphanage, just as we can have an employee on a wage subsidy.
The board The Børnehuset’s board consists of 10 people:
- two which are chosen without an affiliation with the kindergarten
- six parent-elected representatives who have children in the house – including two deputies
- in addition, the manager and a staff representative
