Medgyesegyháza is a town in Békés County, in the Southern Great Plain region of south-east Hungary.


  • Sculptures, monuments
    • The Kossuth Square ornamental park features the work of the sculptor Gábor Mihály, the fountain.
    • A monument to the victims of World War II and a national flag also rise in the park.
    • In front of the House of Culture stands the sculpture of the sculptor Márton Kalmár entitled Reading Boy.

  • Schéner House : September 29 Schéner Memorial House was handed over in a ceremonial setting. A few years earlier, the village bought the birthplace of the painter Mihály Schéner on Damjanich Street, which was renovated in great secrecy, causing a great surprise on the occasion of the master’s name day. The master’s art was recognized with the Mihály Munkácsy Prize in 1978, in 1984 he became a worthy artist , in 1989 he became an excellent artist . Since 1995, the Kossuth Prize has been a hallmark of his work. He has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 1992 and of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Art since 1993 .
  • Churches, castles
    • There is also a Lutheran and a Catholic church in the settlement.
    • The latter was built by the Telbis family.
    • The former Telbisz Castle now serves as a nursing home.
    • The building of the former synagogue is now in the service of the Reformed Church.

The memorial room of László Baross, considered the father of the wheat in Bánkút, is located in the castle of Bánkút, his tomb is located next to the chapel. He was the administrator of the estate of Archduke László József Baross. During the global economic crisis, Baross became the world leader in American Manituba due to its excellent gluten content. In the castle, where Archduke Joseph, Miklós Horthy and many other famous personalities of the time have visited, there is now a community house, which comes to life especially during the summer: it is home to many camps.

  • Csanád Memorial Park : On the occasion of the millennium, a Chief Csanád Memorial Park was established in Medgyesen, where headstone trees remind of historical events.

A cemetery from the time of the Hungarian conquest was excavated on the administrative border of the settlement from the 900s. Medgyesegyháza is located on the water base of the Mureş alluvial cone, which supplies a significant part of Békés county with healthy drinking water.


The city is located at the intersection of 4434 between Gyula – Makó and 4429 between Csanádapáca and Kevermes , and can be reached on either of these four equatorial roads . Starting from Budapest, it is one of the most obvious access routes: to Kiskunfélegyháza on the main road 5 , then to Szentes on the 451 , further southeast to Orosháza on the 4406 , and from there on the east on the 4429 .

The Békéscsaba – Kétegyháza – Mezőhegyes – Újszeged railway line No. 121 of MÁV passes through the settlement , which has two stops here: from Békéscsaba railway station , first Bánkút stop , then Medgyesegyháza railway station . The station is located in the center, it can be reached by a short road 44 336, which branches off from road 4429, and the already mentioned side road No. 44 342 leads to the Bánkút stop.
