Montrouge is a commune in the southern Parisian suburbs, located 4.4 km (2.7 mi) from the centre of Paris, France.
The name “Montrouge” means Red Mountain – from mont (mountain) and rouge (red) – because of the reddish colour of the earth in this area.

Schools
The city operates seven nursery schools and seven elementary schools communal.
The department manages three colleges (Haut-Mesnil college, Robert-Doisneau college and Maurice-Genevoix college) and the Île-de-France region two high schools (Jean-Monnet high school and Maurice-Genevoix high school).
University life
The Paris Descartes University and ENS co-located northwest of the city, Maurice Arnoux street. The university has set up its faculty of dental surgery there, while the ENS has a boarding school and a preparation center for the agrégation in physical sciences.

Health
Since May 2012, Montrouge has a “Health and Solidarity Pole” bringing together the municipal health center, the social action center, the social life district and the medico-psychological center.

Cultural events and festivities
The Soleillades festival , the first edition of which took place in 2009, takes place in early fall. It replaces the Fête des Carriers, which, after thirty-five editions, no longer evoked the old limestone quarries except by name; nevertheless this historical reminder, with among other things specific costumes, perpetuated the memory of this profession, paying a certain tribute to workers linked to the development of Paris and its suburbs.
The contemporary art fair in Montrouge , created in 1955, exhibits works by contemporary artists from Europe. Following the creation of a European section in this show in 2000,

In 2007, the European Exhibition for Young Creators became the Biennial of Young European Creation, which aims to create a network of European cities, cultural institutions and contemporary art specialists to support emerging talents.

- The town hall (19th / 20th century), one of the oldest buildings in the city, has a central body built from 1880 to 1883, and two side wings designed and built between 1902 and 1903;

- The fort of Montrouge , built in 1843 is actually located in the town of Arcueil . Montrouge did not want to integrate the fort on the territory of the municipality, because, at the time, it should have supported the maintenance of the military.
