Pécs Zoo & Aquarium-Terrarium is one of the smallest Hungarian zoos. The aquarium-terrarium is separate from the zoo, in the inner city located within the mediaeval cellar system. It was built in 1985, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the zoo. The zoo has approximately 100,000 visitors annually.
About 1,000 animals from 250 different species reside currently at the Pécs Zoo. There’s an aquarium with reef sharks, and modern enclosures for zebras, ring-tailed lemurs, cougars, Bengal tigers Persian leopards and lions. The terrarium houses tree pythons, chameleons and seals in a multi-level building, and there are also brand new facilities for hippos, chimpanzees, crocodiles and a petting zoo.
