Salzkammergut Treetop Walk

The Salzkammergut region thrives on its diversity. It can be explored at ground level along beautiful hiking trails. However,
only the Salzkammergut Treetop Walk offers the opportunity to get as close to the tree tops and dive even deeper into the forest ecosystem.

Above the forest floor in the pristine nature, you get a breath-taking view of Gmunden and Lake Traun. But in addition to this the treetop walk also has a lot to offer: along the walkway visitors learn interesting facts about the flora and fauna, history and geology of the region. Information areas and learning stations impart knowledge and create awareness of nature. At the same time, the treetop walk invites you to stay and offers relaxation and a little break in the middle of nature.

The walk and observation tower are designed to be accessible and family-friendly. A maximum gradient of 6% also makes it easy to visit with a wheelchair or pushchair.

The observation tower
In the truest sense of the word, the highlight of the walk is the 39-metre-high,
architecturally unique observation tower. From the top platform of the tower, you get a unique view of the Alpine foothills and the Salzkammergut, from Lake Traun to the Dachstein. Just like the rest of the walkway, the tower is mainly made of wood and built in a nature-friendly way.

Information boards on the 1,400-meter-long walkway offer young and old explorers exciting and interesting information about nature and landscape. On the treetop walk kids and grown-ups can vividly experience and understand the forest habitat.

Get insights into the following topics through seeing and feeling:

• Tree species of the mixed mountain forest

• Birds and rocks around Lake Traunsee

• The history of the horse train

• Surroundings of Gmunden

At the experience stations, balancing beams or wobble elements have to be overcome – and all at aerial heights. The stations ensure the right amount of fun and excitement on a family outing. This is how nature becomes an experience.
