Hydroelectric power plant
The Tiszalök dam is the first significant structure built during the regulation of the Tisza . The plan for its construction was formulated as early as 1863. The dam was completed in 1954 and the ship’s sluice in 1958 .
In accordance with the construction plans, both the dam and the hydroelectric power plant, which are architecturally capable of generating electricity, were built at the same time. The Eastern Main Canal receives its water from the dam.
This hydropower plant provided the operating conditions for the largest hydropower turbines in the country at that time, making it possible to utilize the hydropower available through the dam after its completion to generate electricity.
Only two years later, after the completion of the water management facilities, the first unit in Tiszalök started producing energy.
The hydropower plant was commissioned in 1959 .
